Luck By Chance Movie Review – Another Satire on the Hindi film Industry

Luck by Chance is yet another take on the life of young, upcoming actors in the Hindi Film Industry, a.k.a Bollywood. However, Zoya Akthar raises the bar of the much cliched genre through her totally practical take on this life. Through her realistic representations of sleazy characters waiting to cast pretty fames on the infamous couch, and make the life of promising actors worse than hell, she shows how luck and fate can play and important role in the career of such actors in India’s biggest self-styled Industry.

A quick synopsis

Luck By Chance is the story of an aspiring actor Vikram (Farhan Akhtar) who comes from Delhi to Mumbai to make it big in films. Sona Mishra (Konkona Sen Sharma) has been struggling for more than a couple of years in B-grade cinema and wants to switch to more meaty roles.

Meanwhile film producer Rommy Rolly (Rishi Kapoor) announces a new project starring popular film-star Zafar Khan (Hrithik Roshan) alongside Nikki (Isha Sharvani), daughter of yesteryear actress Neena Walia (Dimple Kapadia).

Zafar’s exit from the project is Vikram’s entry ticket to Bollywood. Luck shines bright on him as he is short-listed for Rolly’s film and selected to play the male lead. But as he gains professional fame, his personal life goes for a toss with a failed relationship with girlfriend Sona.

Conclusion:

Ms. Akhtar, who also wrote the screenplay, shows herself to be a master of extremes. A fabulous circus-theme musical number pulls out all the stops, but a scene in which an acting teacher explains why Hindi stars have to be more talented than those in Hollywood is a subtle comic gem.

Watch the movie for its accurate and entertaining take on Bollywood. Watch it for the plenty of tightly filmed scenes, some amazing performances and lots of cameos.

Recommended for: Those who want to have just a small slice of Bollywood reality.
