Dabangg – Non stop action, non stop masala! Pure Bollywood.

September 11, 2010 by Prateek Modi 7 Comments

What can I say about Dabangg. Total Paisa Vasool. Non stop action. Pure Bollywood. Masala, Masala and more Masala. A damn cool mustache sporting, chashme wearing Salman Khan (yes, he takes of his shirt in a dramatic scene), the demure Sonakshi Sinha, some killer South Indian ishtyle action, desi villains fighting the super desi ‘thullay’ of UP. [ad#post-large]Dabangg manages to deliver punches and dialogues without sounding like infamous zee-cinema type liners. Add to this a bunch of really songs such as ‘Munni Badnam’ and ‘Tere Mast Mast Do Nain’ and you have a sure fire winner!

Hell, according to this report, Dabangg has already collected 13 crores rupees!

There is no doubt that Salman Khan is back and back with a bang that is. If you do plan to watch Dabangg, and I highly recommend that you do, please don’t forget the fact that it is a pure Bollywood flick done with loads of style and panache in the right quantities. The story will make little/no sense, so don’t expect a Peepli [Live].

Without seeming over the top Bolly, at the risk of seeming stupid with its hardcore action scenes, and a far too cliched story, Dabangg still manages to make you laugh and cheer, much like the desi crowds of theatres across small towns in UP and Bihar (Luckily for me, I watched it in Hapur, which is a muslim majority town in Western Uttar Pradesh, there were some really remarkable comments being shouted throughout the film. The rooting, clapping and whistling for Salman Khan was being done with such enthu and zest that even I started liking this guy!)

‘Munni Badnam’ is a masala item number and one of the most popular highlights of the movie. Apart from this song, there is ‘Tere Mast Mast Do Nain’ which is a smooth and romantic song and can be sung to your girlfriend without sounding cheap. A really brave and well executed attempt from Abhinav Kashyap, who happens to be the bro of Anurag Kashyap, Dabangg is sheer entertainment. So Go. Watch it.
