Vishal Bhardwaj has a penchant for making dark brooding films such as Maqbool and Omkara. In Kaminey he has picked up the romantic, light, comedy genre, and we believe that he has done a superb job even in this variety.
One of the most eagerly anticipated films for this year Kaminey is set for a release in August throughout India. The trailers have been released and they seem to indicate the advent of another blockbuster.
The highlight of the film is likely to be the double role played by Shahid Kapoor. In one role he continues his lover boy romantic image, but with a stammer, in the other role he is a dark character with shades of evil in him. It is believed that he had to develop a six pack body for this role, and his fans are looking forward to that vision.
Priyanka Chopra plays a middle class Marathi girl, but with fire and verve. The other secondary characters are played by diverse actors like Carlos Paca as Cajetan and Amole Gupta in his first acting role as the foul mouthed Bhope.
The film has been directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, and produced by Ronnie Screwwala.
Kaminey has generated a great deal of interest due to the new look sported by both the main stars. Shahid has long hair in one of his roles, and if the last shot of the trailer is anything to go by, then the rugged well sculpted look suits him. Priyanka has also changed her image from Dostana by wearing sarees and suits in this film, and also speaking Marathi in a couple of scenes.
The lyrics of the film are by Gulzar and the music has been written by Vishal Bhardwaj himself. The music has a certain experimental quality to it, and has been well received.
