Watch Video: 5 Reasons Why We Loved Anushka Sharma’s ‘Phillauri’ trailer

February 7, 2017 by Prateek Modi Leave a Comment

Anushka Sharma is known for taking plunges when it is about producing films, which was visible in NH10 and now she’s back with another movie ‘Phillauri’. Phillauri is Anushka’s second production venture.

The trailer of this much awaited film is out. The movie also features Diljit Dosanjh, Suraj Sharma and Mehreen Pirzada in the lead, other than Anushka. The film is a romantic-comedy set in the Phillaur village of Punjab. The film is helmed by Anshai Lal.  We get glimpses of Anushka playing the character of Shashi, in the trailer. Shashi is a friendly spirit who haunts a soon-to-be-married man, claiming that he has married her while following a Manglik ritual with a tree. What follows next, brings humor in the story and chaos in Suraj’s life. However, the story takes a tragically beautiful turn when it goes in the flashback mode to showcase the lovestory of Shashi and her lover.

Phillauri looks like a breath of fresh air. A story away from the meaningless action and imposed emotions, the film’s USP seems to be lying in its simplicity. The trailer seems to have won everyone’s heart and here are 5 reasons why we loved the trailer:

  1. The plot

The movie is made by the same people who made NH10 and they have completely taken a fresh route and made such a beautiful film, which is quite surprising. Anushka Sharma indeed creates magic! While NH10 was intense, gripping and hard-hitting, Phillauri is the exact opposite – funny, quirky and light-hearted. Phillauri takes a dig at highly followed Hindu Manglik rituals. Anushka’s character makes a claim that the person who was forced to marry the tree and actually gotten married to her as she was living on the tree.

  2. Quirk and Humor

Phillauri seems to have an understated humor. The trailer highlights scenes which make you laugh but are not very loud on being hilarious. Humor is subtle and clever here. These elements work in favour of it and keep us intrigued. Lines like ‘Main toh paidaeshi bhoot hoon‘ to ‘Shaadi se do din pehle kya bhoot sawar hua hai‘ are extremely clever and deserve applaud!

  3. Anushka Sharma!

Anushka who plays Shashi, the ghost, bowls you over from the word go. Anushka Sharma has been a terrific performer since Band Baja Baarat and has done roles which are gripping! You can see her emotions and moods ranging from funny to sarcastic to emotional in just a few seconds, in the trailer itself. She shows varying wavelengths of feel and emotions throughout, which draws your attention. She shoulders the trailer, almost completely and how!

  4. Diljit Dosanjh!

He left the audience mesmerised with his Bollywood debut in Udta Punjab and is surely going to impress them once more in Phillauri. Diljit plays a role closer to heart and home – that of a Punjabi singer. Not much has been revealed about his character in the trailer, but whatever little we saw of him, left us in awe and waiting for more! His love story with Anushka is woven nicely in the plot.

  5. Kal aur Aaj

The director has tried to showcase two different worlds – Kal aur Aaj. One being the era where Anushka and Diljit fall in love and suffer a tragic ending, as we understand from the trailer, and the other one being the modern day where Suraj Sharma is getting married. A comedy of errors, it is. The two time zones are interwoven nicely, atleast in the trailer. The song Sahiba is extremely soulful and soothing!

Check out the trailer here and tell us what you loved about it:

Produced by Clean Slate Films and Fox Star Studios, Phillauri is slated for release on 24 March.

We can’t wait for Phillauri’s release to tickle our funny bones and create some awareness amongst the audience about the concept of  Manglik marriages.
