Sudhir Mishra is back in the game. The director who has produced some very off-beat movies like Hazaaro Khwaishein Aisi, Dharavi, Chameli and Is Raat Ki Subah Nahi, has now brought out a romantic movie which is also a thriller. In Sudhir’s very own words “it is a happy film which is humorous, entertaining as well as thrilling”.

Life, which is made up of strange circumstances and the heady mix of life and love which can lead to even stranger circumstances, is the story of “Yeh Saali Zindagi”. Interestingly, the title of the movie was chosen after an online poll on Facebook, where the original title, “Dil Darbadar” lost out to “Yeh Saali Zindagi”. Irrfan Khan and Arunoday Singh (Arun and Kuldeep respectively in the movie) do strange things for the women they love – and that makes up the crux of the movie’s story. The movie’s trailer does not reveal too much but piques our interest enough to create a certain degree of curiosity in our minds. The trailer does not let us know too much about the story, but it does look like there are enough ups and downs in the film, to give us a roller-coaster ride when we finally get to watch the full film
Trailer Review: An extremely stunning Chitrangda in a black mourning dress gets finger prints of a dead body on a piece of paper. She is urged on by Irrfan while she does this and then they hasten away. Arunoday Singh is shown beating somebody in the jail and then brandishing a gun at one and all. He gets into an auto rickshaw and kisses a female (Aditi Rao) while the child sitting along with her in the auto is screaming away. We also get a glimpse of Saurabh Shukla, who is presumably also some kind of goon or probably the head of a gang. There are a lot of crazy antics all around with people falling off roofs, killing other people, goons making an appearance in almost all the scenes and Irrfan’s smartass dialogues forming part of the background score. In all this mayhem, the trailer does little for me – an interested audience.
Story Glimpse: As per the storyline revealed, Arunoday plays a goon who has had the jail as his training ground and school. He has grown up amongst crime and guns and knows little beyond that. Aditi plays Arunoday’s wife and he suspects her of cheating him. Chitrangda (Priti) is a middle class girl who is aspiring to be a singer. She loves a man and is ready to go to any extent to get her love. Irrfan Khan is a love-struck character who would do anything for his lady love. He seems to Priti’s saviour from all the prickly situations she seems to be getting involved in.
USPs: Honestly, the trailer does not generate too much interest, yet for me, Irrfan Khan, Chitrangda Sen, and Sudhir Mishra are reasons enough to watch a movie. I will certainly be looking out for this one.
Star Cast: Arunoday Singh, Chitrangda Singh, Irrfan Khan, Aditi Rao Hydari, Saurabh Shukla, Sushant Singh
Release Date: The movie is slated to be released on 4th February 2011.
