The pretty Bollywood actress, Sonam Kapoor has won the hearts and minds of her male and female fans with her new matchmaker’s role in Aisha. Sonam Kapoor appeared in the film as Aisha, whose character is similar to Jane Austen’s Emma Woodhouse. The film which is based on the comedy of manners theme used in Jane Austen’ novel ‘Emma’ has received positive response from critics, and audiences.
The Plot
Inspired by Jane Austen’s novel “Emma”, Aisha is themed on the character of shallow-headed Sonam Kapoor who considers herself a perfect matchmaker. To make her matchmaking ideas successful, she tries to pair a lady with the man of her choice. She considers herself to be the best matchmaker around, and feels whatever she does is correct. To make her plans work successfully, she uses the credit card of her father, and funds her expenses. Throughout the movie, she experiments on her friends to find them the best grooms around. However, at the end, it is Abhay Deol, her only critic and friend who helps her realize her mistakes.

Critical Acclaim
Aisha has received mixed response from the critics. While some have praised the character of Aisha, Rajeev Masand of CNN IBN considers Aisha’s character as a “lazily” written work. However, Nikhat Kazmi of Times Of India praised the entire packaging of Aisha, and especially the music of Amit Trivedi. Though the movie has made praiseworthy business in Indian metros in the opening weekend, it has not made a good business overseas. Reports state the film has received lukewarm response overseas with the only exception being Hong Kong.
Audiences Verdict
The movie is a perfect entertainer for people of all ages. Rajshree Ojha’s first directorial venture has not only received popularity for the story, but also for the controlled acting of Sonam Kapoor.
Mahe Talat says
Yes, Aisha was a good movie, but a bit disappointing if compared with the legend that “Emma” is.
