For most people the words Dum Maaro Dum are synonymous with a sensual, swaying, yet drugged Zeenat Aman in Hare Rama Hare Krishna, her debut film. Today, Rohan Sippy has used the same phrase and also the same tune as the background of his new film, Dum Maaro Dum, being released on April 22nd.

The previews of the film give us glimpses of a racy thriller which seems to contain all the ingredients of a box-office blockbuster. Presently the title track is making waves in the music circuit, mainly because of the sizzling Deepika Padukone in her new avatar as an item dancer. But there is much more to this film that just her and semi-clad bodies on Goa beaches.
The story is about multiple characters which crash into each other at Goa airport and their lives are changed forever. Abhishek Bachchan plays an angry young cop who is trying to keep his life in control while he ruthlessly chases the drug mafia in the region. Prateik Babbar is a college student who gets embroiled in the Goa underbelly unwittingly and loses much more than just his code of ethics and values. Bipasaha Basu is her usual gorgeous self and is ably assisted by supporting actors Aditya Pancholi and Rana Dagubatti.
The beaches and shacks of Goa, which most of us are familiar with, and the villages and slums, which no tourist ever sees are all the backdrop of this film. A mysterious drug lord, a surprising climax, crime at its horrifying best and the involuntary involvement of those living in the region, are all part of the story written by Shridhar Raghavan. The preview gives us tantalising glimpses into chases, sexy ladies and as the blurb states – “Goa, Paradise on Earth – but every Paradise has a few snakes “. Cocaine, sex, drugs and murders are all par for the course, and with Abhishek as the main hero you can be sure that there is a lot of action throughout the film.
The music of the film was created by Pritam and the lyrics were penned by Jaideep Sahni. They have drawn upon Konkani music for a couple of their presentations and of course their main offering is a remix of the famous Asha Bhonsle song Dum Maaro Dum. The music has not made too many waves in the music circuit, so far.
There has been a lot of hype created about the film, and every part of a box-office formula has been incorporated into the story and scene. Whether all this will combine together to give Abhishek a much-needed hit – well, let us wait till the 22nd of April to find out.
Definitely, it will b hit, super hit at box office…………….
