We are eagerly awaiting the release of Aamir Khan’s upcoming hindi movie, Dangal, in December 2016. Aamir is the man behind box-office blockbuster hits such as Ghajini, 3 Idiots, and PK. He is known for going through crazy metamorphoses for the sake of his movie roles. He did it for Ghajini, where he went from “normal shaped” to “lean and muscular”. He was then asked to lose those muscles, to look like a really puny-sized naive student in 3 Idiots.
To increase the hype around Dangal, the Dangal team has been sharing various music videos and trailers from the movie. But the Indian Internet truly broke when Aamir Khan’s transformations (mind the plural) were revealed in the form of a promotional “making-of” video for Dangal. He first gained a humungous amount of weight, peaking at 97 kg, to look the part of the older and larger version of the character of Mahavir Singh Phogat. Thereafter came the impressive part where he stunned us all: he was asked to lose the excess weight and get in top shape, to enact the parts of the movie where Phogat was a young and muscular wrestler.
The video which captures Aamir’s journey for his Dangal look:
For many, including me, it was a moment of inspiration, as the fans were saluting his sheer dedication to his work. But while we are all full of praises for his incredible feat, fitness coach Ranveer Allahbadia uploaded a video on both Facebook and Youtube, where he asks us to take a closer look before we jump to our conclusions.
To his credit, Allahbadia does start the video by stating how big a fan he is of Aamir Khan, and how he is indeed glad in many ways that this transformation is inspiring a lot of us in positive ways. However if one looks more carefully at Aamir Khan’s body structure, and taking into account various factors such as his age (which should normally not allow for a massive amount of testosterone production in the body) and the speed at which he went from “morbid obesity” to “God-like fitness”, among many others, one thing is clear: he took steroids to get there.
He then goes on explaining how almost every actor in the industry uses steroids, but also gives the viewer the example of Akshay Kumar who, according to him, is one of the very few “natural bodies” in Bollywood. Allahbadia makes highly logical assumptions and deductions, all while giving convincing facts, visuals and comparisons. The video currently stands at 85K+ views on Youtube and 1.86M+ views on Facebook, as it went viral on the latter.
Here’s a look at Allahbadia’s take on what actually happened:
On one hand, it is good that Aamir Khan’s dedication is turning into a major source of inspiration for a lot of us who want to adopt a healthier lifestyle. But it also good to see that, despite being a fan, we can remain grounded and remember that he is an actor, and he can afford to resort to options such as steroids. We as commoners should aim for more realistic goals, and as we head towards adopting a healthier life, we shouldn’t be disappointed if we don’t get the results as quickly as Aamir Khan did for his Dangal look. We all know the story of the Hare and the Tortoise… slow and steady still wins the race, right?
