With the success of films like ‘Dev D’ and ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’, Abhay Deol has become a ‘class apart’ actor. He is truly a character oriented actor who fits in the choice of almost all the producers and directors. How ever, he has now entered the league of the producers with his new venture ‘Forbidden Films.’ The first production of this company is ‘Basra,’ a film based on drugs and human trafficking.
The internal resources report that this script was first picked up by Nikhil Advani of the ‘Salam-e-Ishq’ fame. But Navdeep Singh, the director did not gel well with him. Navdeep and Abhay share good terms as they had worked together in ‘Manorama – 6 Feet Under.’ So the young Deol has now become the producer of the film.
He portrays the role of an undercover cop in the film. For this, he is now taking training of a special form of martial arts – Krav Maga and he has also hit the gym with a new determination. Another interesting point of the film is that it is the first Hindi film that would be shot in Iraq.
The sources have also stated that when Abhay became the producer, a lot of things in the film went through a change. Abhay has replaced Akshaye Khanna and Nikhil Dwivedi is said have replaced Emraan Hashmi as a cop. Another character in the film is that of a teenager who starts up with drug addiction and lands up in human trafficking portrayed by ‘Victoria No. 203’ lead lady Soniya Mehra. Shahana Goswami shows up as a journalist. ‘Chak De’ girl Chitrangada Singh would also appear in a guest appearance.
Other endeavors of Abhay that shall soon hit the silver screen are ‘Road Movie, ‘Ayesha’ and ‘Raavan.’
