It is said that good things take time. Shah Rukh Khan totally proved this statement with the impending release of the song ‘Udi Udi Jaye’ from his upcoming film Raees.
The song has a very rustic and traditional feel to it. It brings to life the vibrant state of Gujarat. ‘Udi Udi Jaye’ shows a blend of Makar Sankranti and Navratri celebrations. It is a romantic dance number set to garba beats where we can witness some mind-blowing chemistry between Mahira Khan and King Khan.
It first covers the festivity of Makar Sankranti, with equal colour and zest as it is actually celebrated in Gujarat.
Shah Rukh Khan lets his charm seep in bit by bit and then mesmerizes us with his garba moves. The elaborate garba sequence, which is the second element, with embroidered umbrellas in the backdrop add to the detailing and overall impact of the song.
The song also shows us another element of the story wherein the couple tie the knot in traditional Islamic fashion. Mahira’s wink in the mirror comes across as a perfect exclamation point to their love story. On the other hand, Shah Rukh, who plays a don in the film, strikes that fine balance between stiff body language and a stern expression with his swift movements and an occasional cracking of smile and does justice to his role.
This one is surely going to be a chartbuster given the appropriate time it has been released. It was a smart move on the makers’ part to unveil it a couple of days prior to Makar Sankranti as this one is sure to be blaring from speakers on every terrace come Saturday.
Composed by Ram Sampath, Udi Udi Jaye has been written by Javed Akhtar and it’s sung by Sukhwinder Singh, Bhoomi Trivedi and Karsan Sagathia. Check out the full song here:
